Our take on The Sofia Hotel
The Sofia Hotel in San Diego was once known as the Pickwick Hotel, built in the 1920s, and is a member of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America. Though the building still stands as the only remaining property in San Diego featuring a Gothic Revival style, the interior is thoroughly modern, fresh and decidedly chic. Everything from the yoga studio to the fireplace in the lobby to the on-site restaurant are not only visually appealing but invoke a sense of coziness and warmth. Rooms are equally modern, featuring plush beds with fine linens, armchairs to lounge in, and mini-fridges and microwaves for the ultimate in in-room convenience. When you're ready to hit the town, the location couldn't be more ideal, as it's close enough to the Gaslamp Quarter to partake in all the culinary and shopping delights, but far enough so that you're not kept awake at night from all the noise. After all, you'll want to get up early in the morning and grab one of the bikes offered by the hotel for a lovely ride through San Diego -- the perfect way to start your day.
