Our take on The Plaza Hotel
Synonymous with luxury and renowned service, The Plaza is a landmark hotel that's been hosting some of the most discerning New York City travelers since it opened its doors in 1907. The hotel's been the backdrop for countless films, from the classic Funny Girl to Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, but it's perhaps best-known as the home of children's book series star Eloise, who famously live in a "room on the tippy-top floor" of the property. Today, eclectic fashion designer Betsey Johnson has helped to create a whimsical, 18th floor suite that's based off the book and is decked out with pink wallpaper, zebra carpeting and chandeliers. While many of the hotel's accommodations have been transformed into private residences following its recent multi-million dollar renovation, there are still nearly 300 guest rooms to choose from, which come with opulent linens, plush bathrobes and plasma TVs with DVD players. Even though the rooms are remarkable on their own, it's the service -- which includes 24-hour butler service and free local transportation in the house Rolls Royce -- that has set The Plaza apart from other five-star properties.
