Our take on The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

Once known as the "New York White House," The Carlyle is an ageless landmark on Madison Avenue in Manhattan's Upper East Side. President John F. Kennedy owned an apartment in the art deco building, and stories swirl around Marilyn Monroe's secret visits with him. Its prime location places it near the glamorous shopping areas of Fifth and Park Avenues, Central Park, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Carlyle's sophisticated, elegant rooms with unique artwork are individually decorated by famous designers. Hardwood floors, area rugs, custom fabrics and 440-thread count Egyptian linens add to the luxurious appeal. Room amenities include a spacious work desk with wireless Internet, Kiehl's toiletries, iPod docking station, slippers, and monogrammed terrycloth bathrobe. The only thing missing from this White House may just be the Secret Service.

Insider Tips on the Best Rooms at this Hotel

Quiet Rooms

Rooms above floor 20 happen to be the quietest.

Rooms with a View

To get a view of Central Park, request a room above floor 20, facing Madison Avenue. Tower Premier rooms provide the best views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, and are located between floors 20 - 33.

Oversized Rooms

Corner Premier rooms are much larger but are located on the lower floors.
